National Apprenticeship Week 2025

National Apprenticeship Week (NAW2025) runs from 10th – 16th Feb, and is an annual celebration of apprentices, their employers and their providers. It aims to encourage more employers to consider apprenticeships as part of the work-force development.

The theme for NAW2025 is ‘Skills for Life’ and GoLearn!, who provide apprenticeship training to employers across Leicestershire, are celebrating a year of exceptional achievement amongst its apprentices, with every apprenticeship Standard it delivers beating the national averages.

Achievement rates for for our provision to local employers in 2023/2024 include:

Adult Care Worker Standard (ST0005): which has a 92.3% achievement rate against a national average of 39.3%.

Adult Care Workers are the frontline staff who help adults with care and support needs to achieve their personal goals and live as independently and safely as possible, enabling them to have control and choice in their lives.

Business Administrator Standard (ST0070): which has a 100% achievement rate against a national average of 63.3%.

Business administrators have a highly transferable set of knowledge, skills and behaviours that can be applied in all sectors. This includes small and large businesses alike; from the public sector, private sector and charitable sector.

Customer Service Practitioner Standard (ST0072): which has a 100% achievement rate against a national average of 57%.

Providing customer service products and services for businesses and other organisations including face-to-face, telephone, digital and written contact and communications.

Payroll Administrator Standard (ST0073): which has a 81.3% achievement rate against a national average of 57.3%.

Aimed at payroll professionals working in the day-to-day processing of payroll either in-house or as a bureau service. Payroll Administrator apprentices are typically either new to the role, are in post but lack comprehensive experience across all fields of the role or are experienced but lack formal qualifications. This apprenticeship covers all key areas of payroll processing including: foundations of payroll, pensions, technical aspects, (such as manual calculations of build-to-gross and gross-to-net pay), regulations and compliance, systems and processes.

Teaching Assistant Standard (ST0454): which has a 100% achievement rate against a national average of 71.9%.

The Teaching Assistant Apprenticeship is a work-based learning programme which will give your employees the knowledge, skills and behaviours they need to support learning effectively in your school. Teaching Assistants are found in primary, secondary, special schools, alternative provision, and further education institutions such as sixth forms and colleges. Teaching Assistants work across all age ranges, supporting all learners.

Team Leader or Supervisor Standard (ST0384): which has a 81.8% achievement rate against a national average of 54%.

A team leader or ​supervisor is a first line management role, with operational and project responsibilities or responsibility for managing a team to deliver a clearly defined outcome.

Apprentice Voice: Meet Rachel

Rachel Congreve, a career changer in her 40s, never envisioned herself as an apprentice. Yet, she now finds herself pursuing an apprenticeship as a Trainee Community Support Worker for Home First at Leicestershire County Council. This new role marks a significant transition from her previous career in teaching to working in adult care and supporting her local community, so we sat down with Rachel to hear her story.

Apprentice Voice: Meet Hannah

Hannah, the Payroll Manager at Northumberland County Council, is a prime example of how leadership and professional development can go hand in hand. Leading her team by example, Hannah completed the Level 3 Payroll Administrator Apprenticeship, achieving a Distinction, showcasing her determination and dedication.

Apprentice Voice: Meet Jessica

Jessica Jaques successfully completed her Team Leader or Supervisor Advanced Apprenticeship, achieving a distinction in her End Point Assessment (EPA) in July. Through hard work, dedication, and the support of her Trainer Assessor, Jess not only excelled in the programme but also secured a promotion to Project Manager within the Transport Projects and Programmes team.

Apprentice Voice: Meet Corbyn

Corbyn Powell joined the Level 3 Payroll Administrator Apprenticeship with little to no prior experience in payroll. From the outset, Corbyn was determined to develop his skills and establish a solid foundation in payroll, having previously explored an apprenticeship in accounting that didn’t fully meet his expectations.
