Team Leader Apprenticeship (ST0384)

A team leader is a first line management role, with operational and project responsibilities or responsibility for managing a team to deliver a clearly defined outcome.

*** From 1st September 2026, this apprenticeship will no longer be funded for new starts through the Growth and Skills Levy. Employers may still choose this apprenticeship for eligible staff, but the full programme fee must be paid by the employer. Please contact us to discuss employer-funded options. ***

Course summary

Team Leaders provide direction, instructions and guidance to ensure the achievement of set goals. Working in the private, public or third sector and in all sizes of organisation, specific responsibilities will vary, but the knowledge, skills and behaviours needed will be the same whatever the role.

Key responsibilities are likely to include supporting, managing and developing team members, managing projects, planning and monitoring workloads and resources, delivering operational plans, resolving problems, and building relationships internally and externally. Typical job titles for this role may include: Supervisor, Team leader, Project officer, Shift supervisor, Foreperson, and Shift manager. The entry requirement for this apprenticeship will be decided by each employer, but may typically be five GCSEs at Grade C or higher.

Our experienced Trainer Assessors deliver taught sessions and complete regular review session with each apprentice to support the learning journey and keep employers fully involved and informed.
Our learning materials are available at all times within our dedicated online learning platform, enabling additional self-study, revision and portfolio building throughout the programme.
Our Trainer Assessors are back up by administrators, coordinators and managers who are also here to support employers with all aspects of the programmes we offer.

Team Leader Apprentice: Meet Jessica

Jessica Jaques, a project support officer in Engineering Services, successfully completed her Team Leader Advanced Apprenticeship, achieving a distinction in her End Point Assessment (EPA) in July. Through hard work, dedication, and the support of her Trainer Assessor, Jess not only excelled in the programme but also secured a promotion to Project Manager within the Transport Projects and Programmes team.
