Languages
Whether through technology, media, or travel – we are all becoming increasingly connected as global citizens. Learning a new language provides you with a new appreciation of diverse cultures and a new skill that can be used for business, work, holidays, and family life.
Search Languages Courses
By learning another language, you can gain a skill valued by employers, improve your confidence, and broaden your horizons. Classes are fun, social, and interactive, and help keep you and your brain active, whatever your age! You will discover more about the country, its culture, and its people to enhance your travel and life experiences.
We offer 5 different languages
French, Spanish, Italian, German and Portuguese. From time to time we are also able to offer other languages, like Greek, so do make an enquiry if you are interested in a language not mentioned here.
Our language classes are divided into different levels from beginners to advanced. Classes are taught either face-to-face or online, once a week for 2 hours during term time. We have both daytime and evening courses, so you can fit study around your life and work. We also offer short courses during the holidays, aimed at preparing you for your summer holidays abroad. We teach all classes using a variety of learning materials including video & audio clips, practical activities, games, books, and the internet, and you will work with your classmates and tutor to practise the skills you have gained in everyday situations. Our courses are designed to build confidence and improve fluency in your chosen language, and to help you get to know the country(ies) that use your chosen language and their people.
You will have access to our online learning platform, which is full of help and resources. You can access this throughout the week to support your learning outside the classroom.

Elementary
You’re building confidence, developing a certain vocabulary range (food, places, objects) and you can use the past, present and future tenses (I have breakfast in a café every morning, I went shopping yesterday, tomorrow, I am going on holiday).

Pre-Intermediate
You are confident now in a range of situations and as long as things don’t get too unpredictable and free-range you manage fine. You can hold short conversations about what you did in the past and what your plans are for the future.

Intermediate/Upper Intermediate
You are not yet at native speaker level, but you can manage in most situations and do not fear losing track of things nor do you get too tired after a long time using the target language. You can confidently understand formal letters and tourist information leaflets and have longer conversations in the target language, using all of the main tenses.

Intermediate Skills & Conversation
These are essentially advanced – You are approaching native-speaker level and are rarely stuck for a word. You could function in a non-specialist job, attend a social event and feel at ease.

Our service wouldn’t be what it is without the support and dedication on our Tutors. Astrid and Juan from our Modern Foreign Languages team, sat down together ahead of our Have a Go Month in September 2023, to discuss what it is like to learn a new language.
