Jess embarked on the apprenticeship as part of her role in Engineering Services, looking to strengthen her leadership and project management skills. Her aim was to gain a formal qualification while applying the knowledge directly to her work.
Throughout the apprenticeship, Jess found the content relevant and impactful, especially in areas such as project management, team leadership, and decision-making.
Jess’s EPA assessor was highly impressed with her performance, awarding her a Distinction for both her presentation and the question-and-answer session that followed. The feedback highlighted Jess’s exceptional ability to align her work experiences with the standards required in the assessment.
“Jessica has provided an outstanding presentation which has been closely matched to the standards and has taken into consideration the topic that was sent by Skills First,” the assessor noted. The presentation featured examples of Jess handling challenging situations, managing stakeholder relationships, and bringing about positive change.
The EPA assessor praised her ability to apply leadership theory to her role, using data analysis for decision-making in areas such as productivity, finance, and staff engagement. “Each situation was presented in a succinct manner, which demonstrated the knowledge and understanding that Jessica has acquired,” the assessor remarked.
In the question-and-answer session, Jess further impressed with her fluency and ability to expand on her examples. She provided additional insights into emotional intelligence and how she managed several periods of change within her team.
Jess credits much of her success to the support and guidance provided by her Trainer Assessor. Reflecting on her apprenticeship journey, Jess expressed her gratitude, saying,
“I just wanted to thank you for all your support over the last year. With the course content, preparing me for the assessment, and giving me the confidence within my work. You’re great at what you do and an asset to your team.”
The mentorship and structured guidance provided played a critical role in helping Jess prepare for the assessment, boosting her confidence, and applying her learning in real-world scenarios.
Jess’s success in the apprenticeship didn’t stop with her Distinction. Soon after completing the program, she secured a promotion to Project Manager within Transport Projects and Programmes. She credited the apprenticeship’s project management elements for supporting her in this achievement:
“The project management element of the course supported me in securing this role as well as giving me the confidence to consider this move.”
The knowledge Jess gained from the course, along with the confidence instilled by her practical experience and the support of her assessor, empowered her to take this significant step in her career.
Jess’s journey through the Team Leader or Supervisor Advanced Apprenticeship is a testament to the value of practical learning and support in career development. By applying the knowledge and skills gained during the apprenticeship, Jess not only excelled in her EPA but also secured a promotion. Her success demonstrates how the right blend of theory, practice, and mentorship can lead to both personal and professional growth.
