Accessibility
Disabled Access
The Wigston building, including the Adult Learning Suite, is fully accessible for wheelchair users. Access to the building is via the ramp at the main entrance with an automatic front door.
Toilets
The library is equipped with disabled toilet which is available for all learners and library users.
Out-of-hours access
For access to the learning rooms outside of usual Library opening times, you will need to use your ‘Smart Library’ card.
Smart Library Access
This venue is one of Leicestershire Libraries, Smart Libraries. This means that, if your course is scheduled outside of standard library opening hours, you will need to have a ‘smart’ library card to access the building.
How do I get a ‘Smart’ card?
Existing library members who want to make use of smart opening hours need to complete a short induction. This can be done online and will give you instant access to our smart libraries. You will need your library card on-hand when you start the induction. If your library card has expired, you will need to check with your local library to see if your account details need updating before completing the induction/registration process.
You can also contact a smart library to arrange an in-person induction if needed.
NEW library members can register to join the library and set-up smart access once you have received your card. New members need to collect cards in person so you can arrange to complete the smart induction whilst you are on site!
Facilities
Each classroom is fully equipped with:

Health & Safety
Copies of relevant centre policies related to Health & Safety are available on request from your local Business Support team. Below is some key information:
Fire Evacuation Procedure
During the first lesson, your tutor will talk through the Fire Evacuation Procedure and within the first few weeks do a walk-through practise.
If any learner should need help with leaving the building in case of an emergency, your tutor will complete a Personal Evacuation plan with yourself to ensure this help is in place.
Dynamic Emergency Lockdown Procedure (Run, Hide, Tell)
Dynamic lockdown is the ability to quickly restrict access and egress to the site or building (or part of) through physical measures in response to a threat, either external or internal. The aim of lockdown is to prevent people moving into danger areas and preventing or frustrating the attackers accessing the site or building.
- Each of our centres holds the overarching procedure specifically related to the venue
- All our centres display the “Run, Hide, Tell” awareness posters
- The alarm can be used verbally or by use of a panic alarm
